Can you describe some challenges you had to overcome in starting your business? Leaving a W2 employer in health care was scary. Overcoming personal/mental blocks of the unknown were the biggest challenge starting out.

Can you describe some challenges you had to overcome in starting your business? I started in the beginning of covid, I had challenges at first due to lockdowns in my area but found ways to connect with potential clients via social media.

Melissa Schreibfeder, RN, BSN, NC-BC, Integrative Nurse Coaching:"For my live course "Functional Medicine for Nurses"
I provide nurses with the foundations of functional medicine training and teach them how to apply in practice to achieve optimal outcomes with their client population. I also provide instruction on how to set up low cost private concierge practices.
For my practice "Integrative Nurse Coaching"
Integrative Nurse Coaching is a functional medicine practice with capabilities to serve clients in multiple states. I focus on helping my clients to uncover the root cause of dysfunction in the body through assessment, diagnostic testing and collecting a thorough health history. I work with each client 1:1 to formulate a comprehensive wellness plan for them to address all aspects of their health and coach them through implementing dietary and lifestyle changes to recover their health.

Can you describe some challenges you had to overcome in starting your business? Finding time to learn/grow outside of full time work and family as well as extra money needed for setting up a website, email, developing course, etc.

Heather Willems, RN, BSN, The Work At Home Nurse:"After starting a family of my own, I began my search for other options away from the bedside and started my work at home nurse role over nine years ago.
After answering the same questions, I started the Work at Home Nurse to help more nurse moms who are looking for the same flexibility and more time with their family by working from home and created a mini course to help address and answer these common questions.
I also know many nurses are looking for extra money, and I share affiliates that I love, that help others, and help create an additional income stream which is needed now more than ever. Over these past several years, most extra time has been spent getting involved to create change and turn the tide to fight for medical freedom, informed consent, and patient advocacy. I also joined the FLCCC Alliance as a nurse in 2021 to help patients seeking resources and information in fighting Covid, as well as the Nurse Freedom Network to to advocate for medical freedom and informed consent for all.
I've recently completed the Functional Medicine for Nurses course offered by Melissa Screibfeder and look forward to helping others as a functional medicine nurse as well as through Remnant Nursing!"

Can you describe some challenges you had to overcome in starting your business? Tech challenges, mindset issues like imposter syndrome, shame, embarrassment from putting myself out there, fear, specifically of failing or not making enough as the breadwinner

Nena Hart MSN, RN, Hart Healthcare Solutions:"I started as a nurse’s aide at 18 and worked my way up to a director of nursing to improve the quality of care for patients and working conditions for staff. I transitioned to hospice as on-call then case manager and worked my way up to director, area director and administrator, vice president and then national utilization manager of DME. I’ve been married for 18 years have 4 children and I live in Hawaii. I was so committed to high performance in my corporate role that I really strained and devalued my marriage. I had to really evaluate my priorities and my pride and change my attitude. My husband is my biggest supporter, and I am fortunate he is so forgiving. Today we are doing great and my marriage takes priority over everything else. Two years ago, I was recruited to a CEO position in Hawaii and was fired 5 weeks later with no reason. That is how I was finally able to start my consulting business." PO Box 630580 Lanai City HI 93763

Can you describe some challenges you had to overcome in starting your business? There have been so many challenges from first being laid off and thrown out there to having the roof cave in on one of my wellness centers. When the male contractor did not like having to deal with a woman to having male partners threatened by a strong woman to having people not value "energy methods" because it was new and different to jealousy and competition from people close to me to my own self doubt at times as I wondered what am I doing? Then I would remember my business plan and reflect on my values, mission and my true purpose and remember that I am doing this to serve so to expect it to be easy is simply unrealistic. Once I embraced the challenges, it was almost like a game - almost!

Cynthia Howard RN, CNC, PhD, Vibrant Radiant Health, @MasterWellBeing, California Nursing Entrepreneurs:"I work with business owners and professionals to move beyond barriers that keep them stuck, whether that is due to fatigue, negative limited thinking or a lack of clarity around their business idea. My practice is primarily national with a few international clients. Most recently I rebranded myself and want to focus primarily within the nursing community and provide coaching and consulting service for individuals and organizations to build resilience and emotional intelligence for stronger leadership. I have a competency based training program called the Resilient Leader. I have founded the Live Well Community Network and want to build a community of nursepreneurs and nurses (healthcare professionals) who want to move beyond burnout for an exceptionally full life. I have an online membership program and will be holding live events around the country bringing together nursepreneurs with individuals who need their service. This site is www.workplaylivewell.com The first event is Ocean city MD September 27 2014"

Can you describe some challenges you had to overcome in starting your business? Finding financial resources without putting the family in debt

Obtaining a patent - my first patent was denied Finding a manufacturer - This is not an easy task Avoiding scams - there are a lot of them out there praying on new businesses Learning the ins and outs of being an entrepreneur - It is a whole new world with different lingo and etiquette Marketing/Sales - We don't learn how to be a sales person in nursing school Building a business while suffering from chronic cervical injury and migraines

Sarah Mott, RN, @Nurseborn, Nurse Born, LLC:"Nurse Born specializes in products designed by nurses. It is Nurse Born's mission to assist nurses with the invention process and help them bring their product to market. Nurse Born has launched its first product the Nurse Born Stethoscope Holster. Our Holster is designed to provide an alternative means of carrying the stethoscope around the neck. The Nurse Born Holster has a double spring design that allows the user to conveniently attach it to their waistband, pocket, tote bag etc... It is easy to use and fits most styles of stethoscope including some electronic styles. We can confidently say that the Nurse Born Stethoscope Holster will stay in place even during high activity."

Can you describe some challenges you had to overcome in starting your business? I'll mention a big one but there are many challenges that face a business owner however the rewards outweigh them.

First is isolation. You are used to working with nurses and nurses are fun to be around, I experienced a lot of support and I still miss the laughter from being around my colleagues day in and out. As a business owner you have to make sure you are networking. That's why I love the NNBA, I am talking with nurses from all over every week.

Michelle DeLizio Podlesni, RN, CEO Bloom Service Group, Inc. and President of the National Nurses in Business Association:"As president of the NNBA my focus will be on creating additional opportunities for members to learn and develop business skills to accelerate and maximize their success. Typical nursing education does not incorporate business-NNBA bridges that gap! We will continue to expand the association through education, coaching programs, national networking, mentoring and conferences."

Can you describe some challenges you had to overcome in starting your business? Embracing technology and social media (need I say more?)
Time management, Trusting in the unknown and uncertainty, Ignoring the voices of the naysayers, developing a following/getting customers.

Eileen Spillane, RN, MA, NP, The Balanced Nurse:"I help nurses reduce stress and bring balance into their lives through teaching classes, coaching, or presenting at conferences. I have worked individually with nurses via phone, Skype or in-person for those living in the San Francisco Bay Area. Issues addressed have been career transitions, workplace toxicity, burnout, stress management and issues with self-judgment. Often I work with nurses for three to six month time frames to support them to identify the road blocks preventing them from reaching their potential.

Classes I have taught have provided nurses with continuing education credit include Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), Striking a Balance With Stress in Nursing, Breaking the Cycle of Work Place Toxicity, and Creating and Sustaining a Satisfying Career in Nursing.

I have presented as a Closing Keynote Speaker with Restore, Rejuvenate and Renew Your Energy: Bringing Balance Into Our Workday with Mindfulness and Self-Compassion.

I tailored a 4 hour workshop for Stanford University Bone Marrow Transplant Nurses called Finding The Balance in The Waves of Caregiving."
