I went through a transition as a nurse due to stressful situations imposed on me by a healthcare care system that not only lacks effective management skills, but places nurses in dangerous situations due to constrained budgets imposed on them. Through my experience I was inspired to not only “take my own show on the road, but to do so in a way that could help my tribe (fellow nurses) improve their own lives through reducing their stress, discovering that there are choices for them and empowering them to be inspired into becoming their best in life as well as in nursing. My goal is to enhance the lives of nurses which will result in enhancing the care given in the field. View previous responses: http://www.nursingentrepreneurs.com/why/ How many times have you changed employers in your career? 7 What specific qualities and traits do you feel make nursesespecially qualified to operate a business? Starting and maintaining a business can be a daunting task. Nurses are battle hardened and proven. They are results oriented and posses keen observational skills which are required in launching a new business and keeping it going as the momentum builds. They are experienced in creating plans, organizing and implementing them, and then overseeing the outcomes. They have been forced to learn how to work smart, yet still must work hard, and therefore can fully appreciate the ability to work less hard as they accomplish momentum in their own business, which results in experiencing the satisfaction of that achievement. One rarely experienced when nursing under a health corporation. That achievement in itself, for a nurse, can be enough to inspire them to greatness in their own business! View previous responses: http://www.nursingentrepreneurs.com/qualities Do you currently practice as a nurse? If yes in what type ofsetting? In a sense don't we nurses practice as such in all areas of our lives? But no, I no longer practice at the bedside. Your most pressing concerns with the profession andhealthcare: Heathcare for profit greed and healthcare budget shortages that impair nurses in performing their duties. Also, the lack of administrative managerial skills (leadership skills) and the lack of their understanding of what nurses do. View previous responses: https://nursefriendly.com/concerns/ How do you feel the coming nursing shortage (as baby boomer enter the healthcare system, and nurses retire in droves) will affect patient care? If healthcare and political mentality doesn't change it looks pretty gloomy to me. Although I see a potential for change through growing concern and support of nurses. Other areas of interest and expertise: I practice several martial arts and study to become a karate instructor, practice meditation, study in many philosophies relating to self improvement and consciousness.
