American Nurses Association (ANA), Hall of Fame:"In 1974, the American Nurses Association (ANA) Bicentennial Celebration Committee determined that those nurses whose dedication and achievements have significantly affected the nursing profession should be honored for their contributions. Therefore, the ANA Board of Directors created a seven-member Hall of Fame Committee who chose 1976, the year of the nation's bicentennial, as the best time for unveiling the Hall of Fame. From more than 100 names, the Hall of Fame Committee unanimously selected fifteen charter members with the recommendation that the Hall of Fame be made permanent."

Men in American Nursing History:"The purpose of these pages is to provide an overview of the history of men in nursing with an emphasis on men in the Americas. The word "nurse" was not used until the thirteenth century. It originated from the Latin term to nurture. Translations of non-English works prior to the early 1900's typically used the term "nurse" when referring to male health care providers. More recent translations use the term "attendant," because it was thought that only females could be "nurses." These pages will use the term "nurse"." http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Forum/6011/
Pioneer Nurses of West Virginia:"This website, the first online to honor the Pioneer Nurses of West Virginia, is in conjunction with my other West Virginia sites that memorialize our ancestors, as well as the history of West Virginia. For the purposes of this website, the Pioneer Nurses are those who were nurses in West Virginia from the 1860s through 1935. The year 1935 was chosen when I bought a vintage booklet that contains a list of all registered nurses in West Virginia from the time licensing was required (1907), through 1935." http://www.lindapages.com/nurses/nurses.htm
Thoemmes Continuum, History of Nursing, A History of Nursing Gallery:"Nursing, as a profession and a branch of scholarship, has progressed since Mary Adelaide Nutting and Lavinia Dock penned in 1907 the illustrated two-volume A History of Nursing. The Evolution of Nursing Systems from the Earliest Times to the Foundation of the First English and American Training Schools for Nurses (two additional volumes, edited by Dock alone, were published in 1912 and were subtitled From the Earliest Times to the Present Day with Special Reference to the Work of the Past Thirty Years). The North American authors, both born in 1858, two years after Florence Nightingale’s departure from Scutari, were well-qualified Registered Nurses with a wealth of experience between them."

Nurses' Station:"The idea for the Nurses' Station Catalog was conceived in 1989. After searching the marketplace in response to customer inquiries, it became obvious that there were no catalogs of this type serving the nursing profession. To be sure, there were several catalogs offering nurse's uniforms and a smattering of professional items. But there weren't any catalogs at the time offering a range of gifts, clothing, professional items, name badges, shoes and scrubs for nurses. It took two years of hard work to gather samples and put a together a catalog of the most unique and high-quality items for nurses."

ER:"Media products under your influence, particularly the NBC/Warner drama "ER," are harming the profession of 2.7 million American nurses by giving the public an inaccurate and inadequate account of what nurses really do to save and improve lives. Research suggests that "ER" strongly and negatively influences the way children view nursing. These products contribute to the nursing shortage, a public health crisis that threatens millions worldwide."
