Where do you work: Service Agency
Do you carry a personal malpractice insurance policy why or why not: No. No particular reason. The more money that is available the more money you could be sued for
Your most pressing concerns with the profession and healthcare: Nursing has traditionally been too task-oriented. When nursing academia introduced the nursing process to facilitate reason and order in our nursing care we proceeded to view it as more paper and responded by making it into check lists and multiple choice or short answer events. We missed the point. Now as a result of this task-orientation and with the advent of managed care and all that THAT implies we find our tasks being performed by a host of technicians and others who learn how to do tasks not when and why. I think nursing missed its golden opportunity to be professionals when it rejected reason for instruction education for training. Also see last weeks New York Times article on errors and personal liability. If nurses cant see themselves as part of a broad system then they end up worse than proverbial cogs in a wheel they end up as cogs without a wheel in which to function efficiently. I see these two phenomena as part of the same issue.
What attracted you to the field of Nursing: I thought it would be an exciting place to use my intellect.

Nurses' Station:"The idea for the Nurses' Station Catalog was conceived in 1989. After searching the marketplace in response to customer inquiries, it became obvious that there were no catalogs of this type serving the nursing profession. To be sure, there were several catalogs offering nurse's uniforms and a smattering of professional items. But there weren't any catalogs at the time offering a range of gifts, clothing, professional items, name badges, shoes and scrubs for nurses. It took two years of hard work to gather samples and put a together a catalog of the most unique and high-quality items for nurses."
