Your most pressing concerns with the profession and healthcare: Nursings ability to "eat their young" type of attitudes. There is always a need to accomplish each others priorities, however most nurses I have worked with think that their priority is the only priority that is worth thinking/talking about. The next concern I have is government interference with how nursing performs nursing tasks. Not the certification/review of licensure, but how non-nursing people stick their noses into how a nurse accomplishes his/her goals. Example: non-affiliated non-nursing people telling nurses how to deal with difficult patients with the emphasis of patient rights over and above all else... including the patients safety. They feel that the patient can do anything the want to the staff without repercussion & there is documented proof of the increased costs associated with staff illnesses, injuries & staff that leave nursing altogether. Where are the nurse's rights in all this? Where are the nursing obligations to the patient? Where are these so called experts when staff is unemployable due to back injuries, Hepatitis B,C,A, AIDS/HIV, infections due to bites, scratches, broken bones by unruly patients? How are they helping the now disabled nurse? How are they telling them "THANK-YOU FOR YOUR YEARS OF SERVICE"? They aren't that's how. They only think of creating new unenforceable laws or laws that have penalties without regard to due process.
